As a result, I decided to buy a British car. But not just ANY British car, one I couldn’t even test drive first!
1977 MG Midget. Brake pedal and clutch go straight to the floor. Some gauges work, some don’t. Some lights work, some don’t. Carb pisses gas. Top has a few small splits. Passenger side seatbelt doesn’t work. Hood release cable is busted. Vent windows don’t seal. Horn doesn’t horn. But, someone at some point did care about this car. Body is rust free, repainted 5 or 6 years ago, interior is shockingly nice, trim bits are all there and nice, floors and trunk are solid, and someone swapped in a nice Weber carb. Whoever it was that took good care of the car, it wasn’t the PO. In 4 years of ownership, the car has done less than 100 miles.
On the upside, I got it for a song, and my wife likes it, so it didn’t take much convincing in order to convince her this was a good idea.
This actually isn’t my first British car, so I do have some idea what I’m getting into, but that was long enough ago that my mind (and wallet) have dulled the memory. Wish me luck?

I’m generally a 5mph bumper apologist, but I can’t really get behind MG’s work.
I don’t want to bash you purchase though so here’s Torch’s dissent (which seems relevant to M idget as well) :
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
In any event, it should be a fun car once it’s going again. Though based on my experience with my mom’s MGB, some of those things wrong with it seem like they could well have been wrong from the factory.

Yeah, no, they're fucking horrible. Chrome bumper conversions can be done, but that's so far down the list it's not even funny.

It needs a little tidying in the engine compartment (and removal of the air cleaner of death) but otherwise looks great! Hopefully it’s as much as it looks like it will be

Do not go quietly into that good night (or without leaking fluids). Nothing at all else like a tiny convertible (when they run) that you can touch the ground from the driving position . Enjoy!

Good luck, and have fun!

If it’s reasonably rust free (and that newish paint could be hiding a lot!) the rest is fixable. It’s not exactly a complicated car and the parts are reasonably widely available.
Good luck!

Looks fun, and the rust free body is a great find. Perfect project. I had a ‘ 77 B that I sometimes kinda miss ;).
